The goal of my internship was to create a range extender for Robot One. Due to the high amounts of electricity used by the robot, we needed to find a way how farmers could reliably work with the robot for a prolonged period. It would not have been able to perform tasks all day because the battery’s do not have the capacity for that. Simply placing more batteries is not an option, as this would make the robot too heavy. At the start there was a concept for a diesel generator that produced 48V. However, everything from the frame, cooling, controlling the throttle and all the electronics still needed to be designed.
I study mechanical engineering at Avans University of Applied Sciences. In my mechanical engineering program, the focus is primarily on mechanics. However, as a mechanical engineer, I will likely encounter electronics and software frequently in my professional career. This is why I chose to apply at Pixelfarming Robotics. This is the place where all these disciplines come together to create cutting-edge technology.
At the moment I am nearing the end of my internship period, and it was tough but also very valuable. An internship at Pixelfarming Robotics is a great opportunity because you get to do a lot and truly make an impact in the company. You’re given a lot of responsibility, which makes it a valuable learning experience. At the same time, it can be quite challenging because expectations are high, and the pressure can be very intense.
